How to Have a Pleasant Experience When Boarding a Dog

Posted on: 31 August 2021

Thanks to dog boarding facilities and services, pet owners no longer have to stress about what to do when leaving town. They can work with a dedicated facility that can keep dogs and watch over them for an extended period of time. This experience will be pleasant if you do a couple of things before booking a reservation.

Request the Same Diet

You want to keep your dog's diet the same even when leaving them at a boarding facility. If you tried to switch things up, then your dog may not respond so favorably. For instance, they could get an upset stomach that lasts for several days.

Whereas if you ensure the facility uses the same food you do at home, you'll have a smooth transition. Your dog will be able to eat the same dog food and treats that you know for certain won't cause them to get sick.

Find a Facility That Provides Ample Stimulation

While you're away, your dog could be a little anxious at the boarding facility. This is a new experience and you're not around to comfort them. You can counter this potential anxiety by going with a boarding facility that puts all of their dogs through ample stimulation.

You want your dog to have a lot of attention from employees that take them on walks, play with them, and provide positive reinforcement. This will make your dog's experience better because they'll have things to keep them preoccupied while you're away.

Be Prepared for an Intake Process

If you are dropping your dog off at a boarding facility for the first time, there will be an intake process much like there is with patients at a new doctor's office. You'll have to fill out paperwork that gives the facility helpful information on your dog.

You'll fill out paperwork documenting the breed of dog you have, their specific medical needs, and routines that they respond well to. You want to be accurate and thorough during this intake process because it will set both you and your dog up for a more positive experience.

Local dog boarding facilities allow pet owners to have professionals watch over their animals for a certain number of days. If you focus on the experiences your dog will have and plan for them in advance, then you can enjoy this process more because there won't be unforeseen variables that come your way.

Keeping My Pet Happy While I Travel

When my employer asked me to travel abroad for a year straight, I realized that it would be hard to take my pet along. Since I didn't know where I was going to be and what I was going to be doing, it seemed a little risky to pack my dog on a plane and hope for the best. Instead, I looked around for a pet boarding center who could take care of my dog while I was away. I was able to find an incredible business that handled long-term pet care, and they offered everything I was looking for. Check out this blog for information about pet daycare.
